What A Gastric Bypass Can Do For You
-
Significant, lasting weight loss
On average, people lose 60 to 70% of their excess weight, and most keep at least half of it off ten years later.
-
Less hunger
A bypass changes the hormones that drive appetite, so you want less and feel full on smaller portions.
-
Fewer cravings
Many people find they lose interest in sugary and high-fat foods.
-
Help with type 2 diabetes
A gastric bypass improves type 2 diabetes for many people.
-
Easier on your body
Losing weight reduces back and joint pain and lowers the risk of heart attack and fatty liver disease.
-
Proven over decades
The gastric bypass is one of the most studied weight loss operations there is.
Results vary from person to person. Dr Loy will give you a realistic picture for your circumstances.

Another Option Dr Loy May Discuss With You
For some people, Dr Loy may also talk about MagDI™. It gives the effect of a bypass, but the new connection in the gut is made by two small magnets, which then pass naturally within two to three weeks. It has been in clinical use since 2021 and, in Ireland, it is available only at Auralia.
You do not need to choose. Dr Loy will recommend what suits you.

Your Questions, Answered
At Auralia, a gastric bypass starts from €337 per month, with finance over up to 36 months. The price is all-inclusive: free consultations, surgeon's assessment and pre-operative tests, hospital and anaesthesia, your night in hospital, the dietitian programme, the Auralia app, surgical insurance and follow-ups in Ireland. You receive a written quote after your free assessment.
A patient coordinator calls you within one working day to arrange your free assessment with Dr Loy, in Dublin or online. Once he confirms that surgery is right for you, your date is planned around your pre-operative tests and dietitian appointment. There is no obligation at any point.
Your surgeon creates a small stomach pouch, so you feel full on much smaller portions, and reroutes part of the small intestine. Together these reduce appetite and cravings.
You follow a staged plan: fluids, then puréed and soft foods, then a gradual return to normal textures in small portions. Your dietitian guides you. Smaller meals with less sugar help you avoid discomfort, and you take daily vitamins for life.
A gastric bypass is generally safe, but it is still major surgery and side effects can happen. Short-term risks include bleeding, infection, blood clots and, more rarely, a leak from the new connections. Longer term, you need daily vitamins and regular follow-up to stay well. Dr Loy will go through the risks with you in full at your assessment.
No. That is what the assessment is for. Dr Loy looks at your health and your goals and recommends what fits you. Sometimes that is a different procedure, and sometimes it is no surgery at all.
Not Sure Yet? That Is Exactly What The Assessment Is For.
